The Pope came to Visit

On September 22, 2015,  Pope Francis came to visit America. This is the first time in almost 8 years. The last time being with Pope Benedict XVI who was the first pope to retire.

Pope Francis visited 3 places this week; He first visited Washington DC, then New York, and Philadelphia. On his trip to Washington, he was greeted by thousands of people and dignitaries and ended when he gave mass at the Catholic University. He was in the pope mobile while waving to the people in the crowd, which is a jeep with bullet proof glass big enough so he can stand up. The next day the Pope visited the White House to talk in front of a group of politicians, including President Obama, to talk about the President’s efforts to cut air pollution down.

In New York he visited the United Nations General Assembly in the morning and at night, he went to the Madison Square Garden arena for mass. His last stop was Philadelphia, where he met at Independence Hall where he discussed immigration about how there should not be a wall built between the U.S. and Mexico. He then went on to mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Sarah Pattillo, a junior here at Riverbend, went to the parade and waited two hours to see the Pope and she said, “that when  the Pope went through her section the tension was lifted out of the air.” The Pope’s visit to America was an amazing experience to everyone here in the states.
