March Madness

March Madness is the pinnacle of college basketball. It starts out with 64 teams and ends with one team being the NCAA tournament spans 18 days. April 2nd was the Final Four and the first game was the Villanova Wildcats who were going against the Oklahoma Sooners with Villanova winning 95-51. In the second had the Tar Heels going against Syracuse Orange, with the Tar Heels winning 83-66.

The championship game was played on April 4th between Villanova and North Carolina at NRG Stadium in Houston,TX. The last time these two team faced each other in this tournament was in 2013, which the Tar Heels won 78-71. Villanova hadn’t won a NCAA championship since 1985 coming into the game. On the other hand, the Tar Heels won a NCAA championship in 2009. This game went back and forth all game long. The halftime score was 34-39,with the Tar Heels on top. Towards the end of the game was where business really picked up. With four seconds left, Tar Heels Marcus Paige made a clutch three point shot that tied the game 74-74. When everyone thought that the game would head into overtime, Villanova’s Kris Jenkins makes a buzzer beater three for the National Championship. Mrs. Wonsik, a librarian at RHS,  who has been a Tar Heels fan since Michael Jordan played,  said that she was shocked, and then turned off the TV when the player, Kris Jenkins made that three pointer. The final score was Villanova 77 to North Carolina 74.
