2016 is coming to an end. In February, the Broncos defeated the Panthers in Super Bowl 50. Over the summer, many became Pokémon trainers after the release of Pokémon Go in July.  At the Rio Summer Olympics, the United States won first place with a total of 121 medals (46 gold, 37 silver, and 38 bronze). The presidential election finally ended in November with Donald Trump becoming the president.

MUSIC:

So much new music was released this year.  The top forty list of artists in 2016 has many big names including Drake, Lukas Graham, Sia, Rihanna, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, DNCE, The Chainsmokers, and Adele.  The most played song on Spotify of 2016 was One Dance by Drake ft. Wizkid and Kyla.  The five songs nominated for song of the year are “Hello” by Adele, “Formation” by Beyoncé, “7 years” by Lukas Graham, “Love Yourself” by Justin Beiber, and “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” by Mike Posner.

MOVIES:

Many superhero movies came out including Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and Deadpool. DC Comics has started creating more movies and released Batman vs. Superman and Suicide Squad. A remake of Ghostbusters premiered over the summer with an all female ghostbusting team. Disney released Zootopia and Finding Dory, a sequel to Finding Nemo.   Finding Dory was the top grossing movie of 2016 earning $486 million followed by Captain America: Civil War and The Secret Life of Pets.

TV:

It has been a good years for movies; it has also been a wonderful year for television shows. Netflix has come out with great new shows such as Luke Cage, and Stranger Things. Gilmore Girl fans are rejoicing because Netflix also released Gilmore girls: A Year in the Life, which is a continuation of the series that premiered in 2000 on the WB (now known as the CW). CBS also released some new series like Timeless and This Is Us.  The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones continued to dominate in views compared to other shows.

In Memory of:

Many amazing people died this year as well, which is the sad way we are going to end this article. The influential musician, David Bowie, died on January 10 followed shortly by Alan Rickman, the actor who played Severus Snape in Harry Potter, on January 14.  Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, died on February 19 shortly after releasing her second book, Go Set a Watchman.  On April 21, legendary musician Prince, died. Boxer, Muhammad Ali, died on June 3.  Author and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel left this world on July 2. World famous golfer and entrepreneur, Arnold Palmer, passed away on September 25, 2016. Many more legends have also departed this year and they will also not be forgotten.
