Obama’s Farewell Address
Barack Obama has been President for two terms, from 2008-2016 President Obama has been leading this country through light and dark times, Tuesday January 10th, President Barack Obama addressed his farewells from his time as president. He gave his final speech which incorporated many ideals that he preached. Some of which included unity, equality, and hope.
Obama said this about citizenship America, “For 240 years, our nation’s call to citizenship has given work and purpose to each new generation. It’s what led patriots to choose republic over tyranny, pioneers to trek west, slaves to brave that makeshift railroad to freedom. It’s what pulled immigrants and refugees across oceans and the Rio Grande. It’s what pushed women to reach for the ballot. It’s what powered workers to organize. It’s why GIs gave their lives at Omaha Beach and Iwo Jima; Iraq and Afghanistan — and why men and women from Selma to Stonewall were prepared to give theirs as well.” This quote shows America at its finest. This speech impacted my life, as this was the first president that I remember fully. Every President has that speech that everyone remembers, I believe this is his. No matter what your political alignment, people can’t deny Obama kept to his promises the best he could.
