Riverbend Baseball

More stories from Cade Fletcher

Riverbend baseball struggled this year after losing 8 starting seniors from last year’s team. Their official record was 4-10 as of May 10th.

They did win one of the most important games of the season though, beating Massaponax 8-7, walking it off in the 9th in front of a very supportive home crowd. That was the game that gave all of its proceeds from the game to the Beaty family to help with funeral costs for their son Chase. Senior R.J. Vanvickle said, “That was my favorite part of the season. I thought the fireworks after the game during the ceremony were cool.”

Fortunately, Riverbend can expect better results from baseball next year. This team was very young and only had 4 seniors. The team had 4 juniors, 5 sophomores, and 2 freshmen that will stay with the team next year, plus a supply of sophomores and freshmen to choose from on a 10-7 JV team, as of May 10th. Varsity sophomore Alex Correa said, “With all this talent coming up next year, we can only get better.”
