Stress is a common thing that many of us go through. Even students here go through stressful situations. It could be loads of school work, irritating teachers, or even friendships. Stress at times can make individuals feel like no one understands, but students can constantly relate to situations like this.
Around the Bend has gathered some students to share what might cause stress. These students are underclassmen to see the differences of what type of stress underclassmen might go through than seniors.
Sophomore, Sebastian Hazlett has explained what can cause stress. “Sometimes by my parents. Sometimes homework, or if I have a test the next day and I have to study.” He continued to say why these things would cause stress. “I like to have stuff done and I’m stressed because I want to get a good grade if it’s like a test or something, and like I just want to make my parents happy at home and stuff.”
Freshman Gabriella Arrington said, “Situations that can happen with friends and on top of that school work, and it can be stressful.” She continued to say how the teachers can make it a little harder. “If they don’t teach the subject very well, then it could just make it overwhelming.”
The students shared some ways they have learned to cope with stress.
Junior Liam Noonan said, “Music is just what I go to.”
Sophomore David Franz said, “I overcome stress by getting the work done and then taking that time for myself after I’m done with it.”
Sophomore Jackson Riner said, “I think reading is honestly a really good thing, and I think a devotion in the morning, when you get out of the shower, or when you wake up , it honestly helps well with stress.”
Freshman Najaiah Edwards said, “Sleep, I just sleep my stress off.”
There’s some stressful situations that underclassmen go through that seniors don’t. Here are students’ opinions of what is different between upperclassmen and underclassmen stress.
Edwards said, “I know everyone has drama, but I feel like freshman drama just like a different type of drama. Because we’re all really young and trying to figure things out.”
Franz said, “We might go through some stressful moments more because we haven’t been here as long as they have, and you might not know the classes as much, and you might be in more advanced classes in some cases.”
Hazelett said, “We usually have more classes than seniors do, so [we] have more work to do than maybe a senior has. For them it takes like two classes a day, because we have to take eight classes, [which is] four classes a day.”
Riner said, “I think that seniors have a lot more to worry about because of jobs, and they have to think about college courses coming up next year. And I think we have more time to think about that stuff.”
I hope that these methods can help you better in stressful situations, and that you can relate to the opinions these students shared. Also I would advise you to talk to someone if you’re really going through a difficult time.
