Every school year brings new classes, new drama, and, most noticeably, new fashion. From cool street style to vintage throwbacks, the hallways of Riverbend High School have become a runway of self-expression.
Many may ask, “but what exactly is trending this year?” Now, as the school year comes to an end, our fashionista bears have been given the opportunity to reflect on not only themselves, but others as well.
Ruhama Raima, a junior, stated that “a lot of people have been wearing really basic clothing.” She then moved on to explain the exceptions, stating that, “unless you’re in a creative elective, I see the fine arts kids are always on top of fashion.”
Evora Becker, a freshman often found in Mr. Price’s theatre class, is a great example of this. “I like to think I’m eccentric,” she stated, “ I like to wear whatever my mood is gonna be, if I’m really feeling it, I’m gonna go all out with my outfit.”
Evora also stated that she gained a lot of her sense of style through the people in the halls. She stated that “there are people I see in the halls, and like they’re so cute, I like when they show their personality in an outfit.”
One person who has always shown her personality and great sense of style through her outfits is a sophomore named Sydney McGee, who is often decked out in leopard print and furry boots.
Sydney stated that her style is “all over the place.” When asked to elaborate, she claimed that, “I feel like, yeah, I like it, and I’m just gonna get it and style different stuff, so just mixed.” Her close friend, Aliyah Barner, added onto this, claiming that Sydney is the best dressed person that she knows.
Lastly, Jayla Worell and Anaiah Church, do a great job of showing off the eclectic style that they have curated throughout the years. Both girls stated that they “prefer to thrift” and enjoy putting together outfits based on their finds.
In the end, school fashion is about more than just the clothes and brands students wear. Fashion is a language, a statement, and sometimes even a rebellion. Whether students are dressing to stand out, blend in, or simply feel like themselves, their style choices reflect the shifting culture and creativity at Riverbend.
