Lady Bears Get Down and Dirty
After two years of waiting, powder puff is finally back with the senior coaches Mr. Thomas and Mr. Balog and junior coaches Mr. Firebaugh and Mr. Kannavo. The powder puff game was on Monday, October 21, 2013 and it took place on the main football field directly after school. Powder puff has been a Riverbend tradition where the roles are reversed, the girls are the football players, and the boys are the cheerleaders.
Mr. Thomas and Mr. Balog were very certain that the senior class would be the victors of this battle of flag football and they were! Before the games, senior Imani Dunn dramatically said, “If we lose to these juniors I’m dropping out and getting my G.E.D.” Thank goodness we didn’t lose to the juniors, Imani. The score was 28-8 and all the touchdowns were scored by Brittney Gaines led by quarter back Brittney Jacobs. Balog and Thomas were very excited by this jumping up and down in the air and giving chest bumps. Starting off, offense was very strong scoring a touchdown in less than a minute, but our defense was lacking letting the juniors score one time. Luckily with time, defense stepped up to the game helping the Senior Savages win. All the two hour practices for three days a week worked out in the end.
Most of the junior players were concerned about the game being either tackle football or flag football, but as a senior our only intent is to beat the juniors whether it is tackle or flag. “It’s our last year and we have to leave with a bang,” Lauren Lewis said. Come to the field and you will see a blur of black and pink seniors running though the field making touchdowns.
