On September 24th, 2016, the Riverbend Marching Band traveled to Stewarts Draft, Virginia for their competition. The band marched their show entitled “The Future is Now” with songs including themes from “Oblivion,” “Back to the Future,” and “Star Trek.”  The show featured a solo by Brandon Vera. After the show, the band gathered and watched other bands from different counties perform their shows. Senior Drum Major Emy Massanat said, “The band did very well and is exceptionally better than last year.”  Junior Drum Major Rachel Pellegreen said, “The competition season is going very well, and we will keep improving as the season continues.”  After all the bands finished, the band stayed for the award ceremony.  The band received 2 awards at this competition; 1st place Drumline and 2nd place overall in class AA.  The snare player for the drumline Gabe Proudfoot said, “The band did great and we will be working hard and will keep improving.”  Brass Captain and soloist Brandon Vera said, “The competition was great and having the full show with visuals is very impressive thanks to Mr. Wadsworth.  We are farther along this year than we have ever been.”

Mr. Wadsworth, A JMU alumni and Riverbend’s new band director said, “I feel very stupendous about winning these awards. We are in a very good place with our show and I am very excited for upcoming competitions.”  The band has won a total of 3 awards in 2 competitions and has received great responses from the judges.  There are 3 weeks left until the next competition, and the band is hopeful to bring home 1st place
