The girls lacrosse team has performed well this season, despite obstacles regarding player injuries. They have a present record of 9 games won and only one lost. They beat Forest Park for the first time in four years, as well as rival Massaponax. Two players, seniors Amanda Fennel and Sabrina Isch, have been out due to injuries, so these wins were especially difficult to achieve. Junior defensive player Marilyn Biggar said, “[Our season has been going] really well especially since we lost two great players and one was our best scorer. We’ve only lost one game. We’ve grown so much as a team.” Fennel was a top scorer for the Bears, with almost 300 goals scored throughout her high school career. Isch will continue to play lacrosse next year at Chowan University with a full scholarship, despite injuries this season. Isch said, “I’m really excited to continue playing the sport I love next year.” Biggar said the team hopes to advance to regionals this year; it would be the first time in school history.
