Boys Varsity Soccer
One of the many sports Riverbend offers is spring soccer. The boy’s team is broken down into both a junior varsity and varsity team. Varsity is currently at the end of the regular season and they are currently fighting for the top spot in their conference, with playoffs to come soon. They have a record of 10-4-1(as of printing) and the team is currently ranked 59 in the state, according to Maxpreps.com.
All of the players have high ambitions for the team, and they are in high spirits. Goalkeeper Shane Hanken said, “We want to win the conference and hopefully win states.” Hanken, a junior who started playing his freshman year on JV, also said regarding his personal goals, “I want to progress as much as possible as a player, and hopefully play in college.” Center back Jordan Stack, junior, has similar goals for the team. Stack said, “I want us to go as far as possible, hopefully further than ever. We are pretty good right now, and we are improving.” Stack also said he thinks the team “Is the best team in four or five years.”
Ryan Foley is one of the seniors on the team who is playing his last season for the Bears. He will be going downtown to play for the University of Mary Washington in college. His goal for the team is to “win conferences” and his personal goal is to make the all area team. Regarding this year’s team in comparison to past years, he said [we are] “stronger player wise and tactically.”
The boys have a tough road to achieving their goal of Conference champions, but it is doable. Good Luck Bears!
