Varsity Boys Lacrosse
Riverbend’s boys lacrosse has been making leaps of improvement on and off the field this season. As of printing, the varsity team record was 10-2 this season, and they are hoping to climb much higher than that by the end of the season. The team started during pre-season conditioning in the late fall of 2016. All of the work the team put in during the pre season is paying off with victories over teams never beaten before, like Brooke Point. Isaac Graves, junior said, “The team is way better than last year, and we have our eyes on a state championship.” The team has increased their ranking from last years record of “7-10”in 2016 and “1-12” in 2015. As of right now the team’s defense is ranked 7th in the state and the offence is 26th in the state. The team is very strong this year, with 11 senior players.
The team has had a couple of players receive scholarships for their exceptional playing skills. Jacob Calabrese has committed to playing at Averett University in the fall of 2017. Another committed player is Kyle Graham. Graham will be attending Bridgewater University to further is education and play lacrosse like Calabrese. The team isn’t letting off the gas pedal anytime soon and will continue to play with everything they have to make it their best season ever.
