Still Fighting
The Riverbend Field Hockey team has had a great start to their season and hopes to continue their season to the state tournament in November. Although a difficult goal to achieve, the team is closer to attaining it than ever before. They have had a season full of accomplishments, such as beating Stafford High School for the first time in school history.
Senior and one of the captains, Rio Weber said, “We have been doing really well this season and have overcome a lot of obstacles. We move more as a unit now and it has really improved the way we play.” Although the team unfortunately lost to Mountain View in the district championships with a score of 5-1, they made it to the championship game, which in itself is an accomplishment. This loss also has no effect in the regional and state tournaments. To qualify for states, the team just has to beat Manchester on October 25th and either Colonial Forge or Clover Hill on October 30th, depending on who wins that game. If they win these two games, they will automatically get into states. Senior goalie Marilyn Biggar said, “Going to states was our goal last year and we are really hoping to get there this year.”
With a record of 12 wins and 5 losses, this goal is closer to achieve than ever before.
