Crews will be installing the culvert during an extended weekend operation, necessitating a temporary reduction in travel lanes from 9 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, until noon on Monday, September 16, 2024.
During the weekend installation, Route 3 westbound will be closed at Lick Run. Westbound traffic will be rerouted into the eastbound lanes, which will have one lane open in each direction. This closure is necessary to allow crews to efficiently install a new concrete culvert box in a single extended operation.
The closure of Route 3 westbound will begin just before the crossover near the Spotsylvania County Museum and extend beyond the crossover near the Spotsylvania County Fire Station 5. To accommodate this, single lane closures will be in place on both sides of the crossovers, reducing the eastbound lanes to one lane in each direction.
Motorists should plan for extra travel time during this extended weekend operation and are advised to use alternative routes like River Road, Old Plank Road, and Chancellor Road to avoid delays.
The following backup dates will be used if the planned weekend is canceled for inclement weather:
9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, through noon Monday, Sept. 23, 2024
9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, through noon Monday, Sept. 30, 2024
