Garthspeed
Senior Bruce Garth has had an illustrious running career for Riverbend’s cross country team. Bruce has been a prominent member of the team since he was a freshman. He has been a member of the varsity team each year, and had been the fast underclassman that was able to stay with the older guys. This earned him the nickname “baby Brucey”. For the past two seasons however, Bruce has stepped up into a leadership role for the team as not only captain, but a teammate that leads by both example and by filling the team with confidence. His freshmen year, he earned an honorable mention in the Free-Lance-Star’s all-area issue. He received second team all-area the past two seasons. Through hard work and determination, he was able to achieve first team this season which is well deserved. Bruce both athletically and academically, has been a model student here at Riverbend. Bruce hopes to attend the University of Virginia in the fall. Bruce said that making the all-area team “feels great because [he] worked hard all season.” Bruce is Riverbend’s third cross country runner to ever make the male all-area team. Bruce’s hard work and commitment has needless to say left his mark here at Riverbend.
