Day Care Fire

The Sunday afternoon of February 28, 2016, around 2:47pm, a Spotsylvania County Day care center named Always Sonshine Learn and Play on Rutherford Drive off of Route 3 caught fire and burned down. The owner of the day care is Leah Spruill. Luckily there were firefighters ready to respond to the emergency.  It took over forty-five firefighters from different stations over an hour to control, and ultimately stop the fire. Unfortunately most of the building was burned down. Spruill came to the center on Sunday to get ready for Dr. Suess Week for the kids.

A formal investigation was done by the Spotsylvania Fire Marshal’s Office on the scene to see where the fire started. The investigators think the fire started in the attic. No one was injured in the fire. The owner is looking to relocate and reopen. With the loss of the day care those parents whose children are enrolled there will need to find a new day, those or someone to babysit their children until Always Sonshine Learn & Play is up and running again.
