Batman V Superman Review

(Contains spoilers)

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, directed by Zack Snyder, was released on March 25, 2016.  The movie starred Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne/ Batman), Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/ Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/ Wonder Woman), and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).

The events of Batman V Superman take place a couple of months after the movie Man of Steel (2013). The plot follows billionaire Bruce Wayne and reporter Clark Kent in Gotham and Metropolis. Tensions rise between Wayne and Clark as they observe each other’s heroic actions from their cities. Both men disapprove of how the other fights crime. Bruce Wayne does not trust Superman because he thinks that Superman has too much power. Clark Kent distrusts Batman because Batman is a vigilante that sneaks through the night. The tensions worsen as Lex Luthor, CEO of Lex Corps, vexes and provokes them in attempt to get them to fight each other.

The movie lasted two and a half hours which was quite long. Many critics gave the movie bad reviews, but I personally enjoyed the movie. Affleck and Cavill portrayed Batman and Superman well. Gal Gadot’s performance as Wonder Woman was my favorite of  the whole movie. The only two characters I did not enjoy watching were Lois Lane and Lex Luthor.

Amy Adams acting skills were great, but Lois Lane continued to get more annoying as the movie progressed. Superman and Lois Lane have been one of the most well known comic book couple for years.  The movie would have been better if some of the love scenes were cut out. Lois Lane was too much of a damsel in distress. In the middle of a battle between Doomsday, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, it is unnecessary to make Superman fly off to save his girlfriend. Adam’s character would have been better if she only stuck to investigative reporting instead of going into harm’s way.

Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal as Lex Luthor was fine if he was playing a different comic book character. As a comic book fan, I was disappointed in how Luthor was characterized. Comic book Luthor is a villainous CEO who is classy. Batman V Superman Luthor is a villainous CEO who is childish and seems like he is going insane.

Overall, I thought the movie was amazing. It was dark and filled with action. I enjoyed that Batman was fully prepared with armor and kryptonite for his battle against Superman. It was a great fight scene.  The only things I would change about the movie would be more Wonder Woman and less Lois Lane.
